When Do You Need a Moped Safety Certificate?
In Queensland, a Moped Safety Certificate is required in several situations:
- Selling a Registered Moped: You must provide a current RWC to the new owner when disposing of a registered moped (unless trading to a licensed motor dealer).
- Transferring Queensland Registration: If you are transferring the registration of a moped into a new owner's name.
- Transferring Interstate Registration to Queensland: Bringing a moped from another state or territory to be registered in Queensland.
- Re-registering an Unregistered Moped: If your moped's registration has lapsed for more than 3 months, or it has never been registered in Queensland.
Important Note: While you no longer need to display a Roadworthy when offering a registered moped for sale, you must have a current one before you transfer ownership. Failure to do so can result in significant fines.
How Long is a Moped Safety Certificate Valid?
Private Sellers: Your Moped Safety Certificate is valid for 2 months or 2,000 kilometers, whichever comes first, from the date of issue.
A single safety certificate can be used for one registration transfer only.
